Stepping Back In Time
Built-in 1912 by Major Archie MacKinnon, the House was used as a recovery home for injured Royal Navy and Army personnel during WW2. Mackinnon House is steeped in military history, with continued ties not only to just British forces but our allies in general, as can be seen from the many military crests, photos and memorabilia in our Hero’s bar.
Our unique location means we are one of the very first stop-offs after the Skye Bridge as well as being overlooked by the magnificent Sgurr na Coinnich mountain range. The Castle Moil ruins stand protectively over Kyleakin which was once the home of the MacKinnon chief who married a Norwegian princess.
The guest house has recently undergone major refurbishment across all 15 of our bedrooms – 9 bedrooms are situated in the main house with a further 6 in the separate Garden Lodge.
